Who we are
Portage is a small independent advertising agency in Toronto, Ontario. This page explains what personal information we collect through portage.agency, why, and what you can do about it.
We follow the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and the privacy rules that apply in Ontario.
What we collect
What you tell us. When you use the contact form we collect your name, company, website, what isn’t working, and when you need it moving. If you email us, we keep the email.
What the site records. If you accept optional cookies, we collect basic information about how the site is used: the pages viewed, the device and browser, and roughly where in the world the visit came from. We don’t collect payment details on this site.
How we use it
We use what you send to answer you, to decide whether we can help, and to run the work if you hire us. We use site information to see which pages get read and to fix what doesn’t work.
We don’t sell your personal information.
Who we share it with
We use outside providers to run the site and the business, such as hosting, form handling, email, and analytics. They only get what they need to do that job. [list providers before launch]
We may also disclose information when the law requires it.
Cookies
Essential cookies keep the site working and can’t be switched off. Optional cookies help us see how the site is used and are only set if you choose “Accept all” in the cookie notice. You can change your choice at any time by clearing your cookies for this site. [confirm cookies actually set]
How long we keep it
We keep contact form messages and email for [retention period] unless you hire us, in which case we keep what we need for the work and for our records. Then we delete it.
Where it’s stored
Our providers may store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States. Information held in another country can be accessed under that country’s laws. [confirm provider locations]
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or withdraw your consent to us using it. Send the request to [privacy contact email] and we’ll answer within 30 days.
If you’re not satisfied with how we handle it, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
